Blast from the Past - Mackay Idaho Resident Chase Addison Clark Marries Jean Burnett in Mackay Idaho 1906

  

Jean Burnett was the daughter of Alex Burnett, pioneer resident of Mackay and Custer County Idaho. He was a rancher, cattleman, freighter, ran the Burnett Meat Market, and purchased a hardware store from the Brennan Brothers.

Chase A. Clark served as the Governor of Idaho from 1940-41 to 1943. 

Chase A. Clark and his wife, Jean E. Burnett Clark had one daughter, Jean Bethine Clark who later married Frank Forrester Church III (b 25 July 1924, d 7 April 1983), a lawyer and Democratic State Senator from Idaho from 1957 to 1981. They also had three sons, Frank, Forrest, and Chase.

Remembering Alex Burnett Mackay Miner April 22 1954 and April 29 1954

 Alex Burnett is buried at the Morris Hill Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.

Alexander "Alex", was the fourth child of David and Jane Buist. Burnett, who came from Scotland in 1857, to New York. They came to the Tooele, Utah, area in 1861. In 1869 the family moved to the Malad, Idaho area. Alex married Mary Jane Jones, (my first cousin twice removed) on March 21, 1884 (the Western States Marriage record says January 21 1884). They moved to the Lost River Valley in the same year, Alex homesteaded on land ajoining the land of Henry Evans. He became a successful rancher, and also freighted from Blackfoot to Challis and mines at Custer, Idaho, along with Henry Evans and others. Around 1904 or 1905, Alex sold his ranch properties, and moved to the new town of Mackay, Idaho, where he opened a store, the White Knob Meat Market, along with his father, David Burnett.

In 1910, he purchased the hardware business of the Brennan Brothers. Six children were born to Alex and Mary Jane: Alexander, Jr., Isabell,(died in infancy), Jean Elizabeth (married Chase Clark), May Bell (or Mabel) (married Samuel Patterson), Mildred, (married Dr. F.P. Richards), and David McArthur. His wife of 14 years passed on in 1898, and he remarried next to Mary Emma Smyers. To this union, one child, Beulah Mae Burnett Reeves, was born.  Mary Emma Smyers passed on in 1918, after which Alex moved to Boise Idaho, where he lived until his death.
