Blast form the Past - Mackay Idaho's Empire Mine Railroads 1901-1917
The railroad from the Empire Mine to Mackay, Idaho was built in 1901 and was initially an electric locomotive, which was used until 1905.
The electric railroad was replaced with a Shay locomotive in 1905 and used until 1917 when the railroad was replaced with the aerial tramway which was cheaper to operate.
