Mackay Idaho Gas Prices - July 28 2013

Rarely do we have different gas prices between our locally owned Sammy's and the national chain Chevron gas stations... but we did today. I ALWAYS go with Sammy's no matter the price, because it is locally owned and operateed.
Chevron at $389.9.

Sammy's at $379.9

Blast from the Past - Texaco Service Station 1930's to 1942

Frank "Nick" R Nickerson and Brian Hurst at the 1st Texaco Station (circa late 1930s) on the corner of Custer aka Highway 93 and Main Street.

Al West decided to raze the first Texaco Station and build a "modern" Texaco at the same location. Frank "Nick" R Nickerson was the manager and it opened in June 1941.

Below, the Mackay Rodeo Parade with the Texaco Station in the background. Note the Masonic Hall on the far right with the names of all Custer County Veterans painted on the side of the building (razed after 1983 Earthquake) and Ace's Sport Shop on the left (Ace and Sue Savaria Shinderling) which was also razed after a fire.
The Mackay Sport Shop owned and operated by Ace and Sue Shinderling is located just up Custer Street (aka Highway) to the north of the Texaco. Photos from the Nickerson Collection.

More History on the Current TriCounty Supply Lot Highway 93 and Elm

Mackay's Standard Gas Station on Highway 93. The building across Highway 93 (triangular front) was the Chevrolet Dealership owned by Herschel Collins circa 1930's. Then, Ray Greene moved his Ford Dealership to this building in the mid-1930's. Greene sold to B.C. Jones at the end of WWII and the Ford Dealership closed circa 1953. Al Blair moved his automotive shop here after that and sold to Wendell Voss who reopened a Chevy Dealership which closed in 1967. Wilmer Hansen had a garage in the back of the building for a period of time. The building sat idle for awhile. Joe Casebolt rented the building as repair shop. In the late 1970's or early 1980's, Ray & Peggy Kent bought the building and made the building in to a spa with a swimming pool and racket ball court. Milt Bulter leased a portion of the building . Finally, Delvin Hale had the building which had an antique shop in it before it burned August 29, 1992. Randy Nelson owns the ground in 2010 for the TriCounty irrigation equipment storage.
