Blast from the Past - American Legion Burns Mortgage - Mackay Miner November 18 1965
Pictured here left to right are Mrs. Ersa Ledington, Mrs. Fern Larter and Oval Caskey as they burn the mortgage on the Legion Hall and property. The ceremony took place Veterans Day when the post met in joint session and at the combined meeting which was called to order by Commander Bob Chambers, the group observed the burning of the last note the group borrowed to complete the new hall (located on Main and Spruce). Oscar Wornek, Sr, Ruby Lemmon and George King presented the Colors, Carrie Wornek led the Pledge of Allegiance and Mrs. Clella Brennan lead the group singing, George Hinds delivered an excellent address "Veterans Day 1965" The talk was most timely and very well received by the group. The Pot Luck Dinner and meeting was attended by more than 50 people. From the Mackay Miner November 18 1965.
