Carma Ellen "Sally" Nelson, 63, of Mackay, Idaho, passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at her home surrounded by her family. Arrangements are under the direction of Lost River Funeral Chapel in Arco, Idaho.Published in Post Register on February 2, 2011.
After a battle with cancer, Carma Ellen "Sally" Nelson, 63, joined her beloved Sookie and our Heavenly Father on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at her home in Mackay, surrounded by her children. Sally was born Nov. 6, 1947, in Mackay, Idaho, to Hazel and Willis Ivie, both from Mackay. From the time Sally was about 4 years old, she exhibited great musical talent playing the piano. She learned how to play by ear from her dad, Willis, and sister, Dorita. Sally attended school in Mackay. On Nov. 27, 1965, Sally married the love of her life, Orlin "Sookie" Wayne Nelson, at St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Mackay. They moved to Bellevue and started their family with the birth of twins, Tammy Nelson and Tonya Nelson, who was stillborn. Shortly after, they moved to Osburn, Idaho, where their son, Kirbi Nelson, joined the family. On May 2, 1972, disaster struck the family with the death of Sally's beloved Sookie in the Sunshine Mine disaster. She was pregnant with her last child, Traci Nelson, at the time. She moved back to the Lost River area and has considered this valley her home.
A treasured memory that will be in Sally's children's and grandchildren's hearts forever is being able to go to the Sunshine Memorial on May 2, 2010, to memorialize Sookie. Sally's health was not that great, but she went. All her children and grandchildren, with one exception, went and made for one of the best family trips ever.
Sally was preceded in death by her father, Willis Ivie; her mother, Hazel Ivie; her brothers, LeRoy and Vivian Ivie; her husband, Orlin "Sookie" Nelson; and her daughter, Tonya Nelson. She is survived by her sisters, Joy Barnes (Vern) and Dorita Ivie; her children, Tammy Nelson of Ririe, Idaho, Kirbi (Amy) Nelson of Rexburg, Idaho, and Traci (Nancy) Nelson or Moreland, Idaho; her grandchildren, Chad Larsen, Devin and Kelby Nelson, and Dominic, Myles, Destiny, Storm and Hope Nelson; and one great-grandchild, Autumn Rayne Larsen.
Sally loved her grandkids more than they will ever know. Sally was loved greatly by her children and grandchildren and will be deeply missed.
Mom, we love you and miss you, and you will always be in our hearts.
A celebration of Sally's life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at the Howard Rosenkrance Willow Creek Ranch at 4366 Houston Road in Mackay, Idaho. Graveside services will be held privately at a later date. Watch for signs off Mackay highway.
