Ines ‘Bunnie’ Smith

In the morning of Saturday, June 1, 2013, Bunnie Smith 94, went to be
with her Lord and Savior.
Bunnie was born January 30, 1919, Blaine County, Moore, Idaho to Roy and
Evelyn Swasey Pearson. She was the fifth of eight children; Selma
Crawford, Rodney Pearson, Maud Pearson, Beth Bolland, Bunnie Smith,
Hilda Smith, May Jones, and Jean Andersen. Bunnie was named after her
Mother’s sister, Aunt Ines. She acquired the nickname ‘Bunnie’ from the
sounds she made at a really young age.

The Roy Pearson family lived on the farm that continues in the Andersen
family today and they also raised cattle and hogs. Bunnie grew up doing
the outside farm work of a man and tending the livestock. She loved
basketball and played during her years at the Moore High School,
graduating in 1937.

Bunnie met and married Francis L. Smith on June 6, 1937 at Arco, Idaho.
They farmed briefly at Inkom and Jerome before moving back to Dickey
where they purchased the cattle ranch from Al West. The ranch at Dickey
would be home for the next forty years where they would raise their
family of four children, Wiley, Katherine, Arlene, and John.

Francis and Bunnie played music for dances at the Alder Creek and Barton
Flat school houses and also at the grange hall at May in the Pahsimeroi.
Bunnie loved to play cards, knit, crochet, read, and visit with friends.
Bunnie was one of several ladies who crocheted fancy work for the
Ladies’ Aid which benefitted the Community Church.

Smith and Pearson reunions were always a priority and a welcome time to
visit with family.

Francis and Bunnie semi-retired from the ranch and moved to Mackay in
1976 where they could finally raise corn, tomatoes, and fruit that
wouldn’t freeze like it did at the ranch. Bunnie loved her flowers,
yard, and garden.

In the mid-1970's Bunnie would come to know a personal relationship with
her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She hosted Bible studies in her home
and her faith in the Lord continued to grow and would be her hope and
strength as she faced the end of her life here before going home to be
with her Lord.

Her husband, Francis, died in 2001. Bunnie is survived by her four
children, Wiley Smith (Carolyn) of Mackay; Katherine Allen (Ralph) of
Portland Oregon; Arlene Stoor (Jerry) of Boise; and John Smith (Sue) of
Idaho Falls; thirteen grandchildren, and several great-granchildren, and
a sister, Jean Andersen (Jay) of Moore.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday June 7, at the Mackay Community Church in Mackay, Idaho. Interment will be at the Mt. McCaleb Cemetary. A dinner will follow for friends and family back at the Mackay Community Church.
