In Kellie Dykstra's Own Words: Most of my friends and family know I've been dealing with Melanoma (skin cancer) since I was pregnant with Lynzi, in 2004. Over the years I've dealt with numerous recurrences and was able to be disease free for periods of time in between surgeries.
I
May 2010 brought a new recurrence in my thyroid gland and surrounding lymph nodes which are unoperable at the current time. I've done ALT-801 trial, B-RAF, and now starting a trial with Temodar. I had a stroke due to a bleeding brain tumor in Nov. 2011. I'm not done with living yet!
Unfortunately, Kellie passed away March 2012 surrounded by her family. She looked peaceful and free from pain. The family appreciates the support of all her friends. A service was held at 12 noon on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Burial was in the West Branch Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in Kellie’s name and can be directed to the University of Iowa Community Credit Union.
